Why are we different?
Each book is made to order and is assembled by hand, maintaining the highest
level of craftsmanship – that’s why they look so much better than
mass-produced, off the shelf albums.
Our cutting-edge, magazine-style design makes our books stand out among the
rest.
In terms of quality ‘A+ Books’ only delivers the best. The main
differences between our books and other digital books can be summarized as follows:
- Our proffesional graphic designers will produce amazing work from your photographic
images.
- We DO NOT USE TEMPLATES: we believe that templates impose unnecessary limits
to what can be included in each page, much like the traditional albums with
mats. Instead, we maximize the possibilities that modern technology has to offer
by giving the artist total freedom. Every design is an original. There are no
restrictions on the shape and size of the images we can use in each page of
the book.
- If you have not yet made the transition to digital cameras, you will be pleased
to know that you can have your negatives professionally scanned at your local
lab to produce a book of virtually the same quality as those are made from digitally
captured images.
- We use KODAK DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER to print the final images that make
up the book. Your images will therefore look and feel like ‘real photographs’
in the finished book.
- The printing process is fully digital, eliminating the loss of image quality
typical of the offset press.
- Apart from photographs, our books often include other elements, such as wedding
invitations.
How many images can fit in a book ?
There is no limit to how many images you can include, however the number of
images has to keep a relation to the number of sides. We have a guide with recommendations
on number of images / number of sides ratios that are commonly used with a very
pleasing result. The maximum number of images accepted is an average of 5 per
side.
How much would it cost to produce a book with 150 images ?
The cost does not depend on the number of images. The cost depends on three
factors:
1) Size of the book.
2) Number of sides included in the book.
3) Type of cover and whether you need extras such as foldout, book jackets,
etc.
The album size depends on your personal preferences and budget.
If you make your own design, this means you have control of the layout and you
know how many sides you need in the book. Based on this, you can make your own
cost calculation straight from the price list.
For a new A+ Books design however, the number of sides is uncertain until the
layout is finished. You can still give us an indication of how many sides you
expect depending on what you have arranged with your client.
For 150 images, you will need at least 30 sides. If your client wants to display
only two or three large images per side however, the design can easily go over
50 sides.
In conclusion, to calculate cost, the main question is how many sides you need
in the album. The other factors are easy to work out.

What are our book’s sizes
Portrait line
Square line
Ideal for portraits collection, model’s portfolio or weddings. This large
size book guarantees maximum impact.
A versatile size, suitable for most uses.
Great size for replicas of the wedding book for the parents of the bride and
groom; also a popular choice for baby portraits, holiday photographs, etc.
An original gift idea for the bridal party, grand-parents, or as an extra copy
of a bigger book to carry around and show anybody, anytime.
Also known as the “key ring” size book. A cute little book that
can be carried in a pocket.
When you do the design, can my client see a proof of the layout before the
album is printed ?
Of course. All our designs are approved by the client before they go to print.
The files are e-mailed to your studio in JPG format for easy viewing. You can
invite your clients to see the files at your studio, or you can forward the
images via e-mail for them to view at home.
If the client is not satisfied with the design, we will make any necessary changes
until the design is finally approved. The client should prepare a Changes form
(with your assistance if necessary) so that our designers can see what your
client wants to change. If the instructions are clear, the changes will be done
accurately. Making some changes until the client approves the design is a standard
part of our service and we allow at least 18 changes at no extra cost.
Note however that requesting changes delays the whole process.
How do you know which images go in which page ? Do I have to tell you, or
do you figure it out?
Whichever way you want to do it ! We are quite flexible in this regard, you
can have as much or as little input as you are comfortable with.
Some photographers just love the possibility of leaving 150 or so images in
a CD and forget about them until we send them a complete design.
Others work more closely with their client and take precise instructions about
the order of some sequences, which images should be larger, which ones smaller,
or which images should go in which page. If you send a brief stating what you
expect out of the design, our designers will do their best to follow it.
Can you add a verse to one or more pages of the album?
If yes, what is the cost.
Yes, you can add any text of your choice to any page(s) of the album.
All you need to do is supply the text in DIGITAL FORMAT (e.g. Word or text document)
and, if applicable, the desired location for it.
This is considered to be part of our standard service for New A+ Books design,
and there is no extra cost for it.
If we send colour images, can you change some of them to black & white
or sepia ? What is the cost ?
Absolutely. This is also part of our standard service for New A+ Books design,
so there is no extra cost.
You may indicate which images you want changed to black and white or sepia (or
blue, or red... any colour !) or you may leave it up to our designers.
