Select the images to go in the album

Do not send the whole set of images.
You should select the images to be used in the album prior to submitting to A+ Books.

digital wedding album in Australia and New Zealand: 2. Group the images

Group the images in folders by section (for example, 'A bride before
ceremony', 'B groom before ceremony', 'C ceremony', 'D family formals'
, 'E romantic shots', etc.).
The letter before the name of each folder helps to keep all folders in
the desired order.
Make a note of how many images you are including in each folder, so
we can check that all the intended images are received.

3. Prepare the order form

Complete the order form, and keep a copy for your records.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure your order is complete and that all relevant details are written on the form. Missing information (such as embossing color, etc.) means we will have to follow up digital wedding photo album details with you before the job goes into production. Production does not start until all details are full and clear. Orders that are not sent correctly (for example, digital images not sorted in folders) will attract extra charges. Read the Technical Info for further instructions if you are producing Your Design.

If you are sending your images on CD, place the CD and completed order form in an envelope and send it to:

A+ Books
55 Werin St.
Tewantin QLD 4565
Contact: Diego Buela
Phone number: (07) 5474 4870 digital wedding photo album

4. Deposit

A minimum deposit of AU$ 350.00 is required for each order, this amount can be transferred to our bank account ('A+ Books' ANZ BSB 014706 Nº 499466271) or you can send a cheque to 'A+ Books' (NOT A Plus Books) with your order

5. Design

If you have an idea of what you would like the design to look like, please be as specific as possible from the beginning. You can type your brief on the order form, or you can add notes to certain images (using Photoshop to enlarge the canvas to give you some writing space) to indicate what you would like us to do with them. The clearer your instructions, the closer we will be to producing the design you have in mind.

On the other hand, if you do not have a clear idea of what you would like the design to be like, you are welcome to leave it all up to our experienced designers. Note however, that if you give us a lot of freedom, you will not be expected to want to make a lot of changes after the design is produced. Therefore, if you can identify the things you like (e.g. 'use red tones for backgrounds') and the things you don't (e.g. 'not more than 4 images per side') please spell them out from the beginning.

In any case, when you receive the design preview, you will need to tell us whether the design is approved and ready to print or whether you would like anything in the layout to be changed.

The design process can take up to 4 weeks.

6. Approval

The design preview is sent via e-mail (you will need to provide an e-mail address with sufficient capacity to accept large attachments).
The preview will contain one file for each double spread in the album. The file names are in alphabetical order, so that the files appear in order when you open them. The file names also indicate which page number they contain. For example:

File A 1 - 2.jpg.......... is the first double spread, with pages 1 and 2 (page 1 on the left, page 2 on the right)

File B 3-4.jpg .................. is the second double spread, with pages 3 and 4 (page 3 on the left, page 4 on the right), and so on.

Requests for changes should be very specific, such as: 'move this image the left', 'move that image to the right', 'make this image smaller', etc. Please do not use vague phrases such as: 'make this page more artistic', 'redesign this page', 'make this layout more interesting'. Instructions like this will be sent back. Our designers will try to interpret your brief (if there is one) to the best of their ability from the beginning. If they didn't interpret it right the first time, they will probably not interpret it right the second time either. For this reason, once a design has been produced, it will be up to the client to tell us exactly what they want changed.

If the changes you are requesting are VERY SIMPLE TO DESCRIBE, they can be requested via email, identifying the file to be modified by its name and identifying the images concerned as clearly as possible (remember we don't know the people in the photographs by name or by their relationship to the bride and groom!).

Important: We aim at doing not more than one round of changes for each job. If you need to send a second request for changes, note that we do not keep a copy of the original design. Requests such as 'revert pages 5-6 to the original design' cannot be accepted. You will have to state exactly how you want the photos placed, or you will have to send your copy of the original design.

The clearer your instructions, the faster the changes will be made. A new preview will be sent to you for approval. You may request as many changes as sides in the album free of charge. Changes in excess of that number will be charged for.

7. Final payment

All balances are payable at the time of design approval or two weeks after we send a design preview - whichever happens first. Orders where the total amount is AU$ 350.00 or less must be submitted with full payment.

Work on design changes will not proceed if more than two weeks have passed since we sent you the first design preview and the balance of the order remains unpaid. Printing will not commence if any balance on the order remains unpaid. A+ Books reserves the right to demand full payment in advance to clients who have failed to pay their balances by the due date.

Orders for 'Your design' or 'Replica of our previous design' must be submitted with full payment.

8. Binding

The binding process can take up to 4 weeks after either the approval date or when final payment is received, whichever is the latest.

9. Delivering

When you order, please let us know if you have any preferred courier, you will be notified by E-mail when your order is on its way.

Technical info

These guidelines are important and will help you prepare your order right from the first time.

New A+ Design (select this option if you shoot with digital cameras or if your negatives have been professionally scanned and are ready to use - we will do the design, printing and bookbinding).

Replica of A+ Design (select this option if you are ordering a copy of an album previously designed by A+ - we will re-size it if necessary, print it and bookbind it).
OR
Your Design (if you want to be in charge of the graphic design and send it on CD - we will print the files as received and will do the bookbinding).

New A+ Design: Submitting digital files

If you use digital cameras, it is important that you save the images in a sufficiently large size to allow for enlargements. The size and resolution of the images will determine the print quality of the final album.

File format: We prefer to receive your files in JPEG format with no compression (maximum quality, baseline standard).

File size: Saving the images in large sizes gives the designer more freedom. The general rule is: large images can be reduced with no loss of quality, but small images always lose quality if they are enlarged. For most images, a file size of 1 or 2 Mb (in JPEG format, measured when the file is closed) is sufficient.

File and folder names: Each file should be given the name that identifies the photograph (usually a number). If there is a query or special request later on, the images will be easier to identify. For example, you may need to tell us 'our client would like image 03516 in black and white'.

The files should be saved into a main folder named after the couple, for example, 'Tina & Tony's folders'. Inside this folder, you create the following subfolders, starting with an alpha character so they appear in the order they should go in the book, for example:

'A bride'
'B groom'
'C ceremony'
....
'X leaving reception'

Each image should be saved inside the appropriate folder.

If you have special instructions for any of the images, you can write some text next to the image and save image + your text as one document, or you can submit a list with the instructions you have for each image.

Always keep a copy of your image files. Shipping of CDs will be at your expense. CDs will not be returned.

Replica of A+ Design

You can order a replica of an album previously designed by A+ Books at any time. All you need to do is submit an order form. The replica album may be of the same size as the original, or smaller.

Your Design

If you are submitting your own design, you may send it on CD. Shipping of CDs will be at your expense. CDs will not be returned.

Format

JPEG files with no compression (maximum quality, baseline standard). RGB mode.

Resolution: 250 dpi

Canvas size

All double spreads: 40 cm high by 65 cm wide for 13'x 16' albums, or 32.5 cm high by 65 cm wide for 13'x13' albums. These are the right sizes for our largest standard albums. You need to resize the files if you order additional copies of the same album in a smaller size. All the documents should be designed as double spreads, including foldouts. IMPORTANT: Allow a few millimiters around the edges for trimming (i.e. do not place text or important images too close to the edge). The following tables give the full list of canvas sizes for each different book size.

Portrait albums

Book size (inches) Canvas size (centimeters) Canvas size (inches)
13 x 16 65 x 40 25.592 x 15.748
10 x 12 49.53 x 30.48 12 x 19.501
8 x 10 24.79 x 40.29 9.76 x 15.864
4 x 5 12.7 x 20.65 5 x 8.125
2.5 x 3 12.7 x 7.81 3.077 x 5

Square albums

Book size (inches) Canvas size (centimeters) Canvas size (inches)
13 x 13 65 x 32.5 12.796 x 25.592
10 x 10 24.81 x 49.56 9.768 x 19.512
7 x 7 17.78 x 35.56 7 x 14
5 x 5 12.7 x 25.4 5 x 10
2.5 x 2.5 6.35 x 12.7 2.5 x 5

File names

For 13 x 16 and 13 x 13 books, you should name the files with the numbers corresponding to the album sides. For example: 'A 1-2' for the first double spread; 'B 3-4' for the next double spread, and so on. The alpha character at the beginning of the file name helps to keep the files in the right order.

Printing files

For books 10 x 12 and smaller, you need to submit the 'printing files' so all the pages can be printed with minimum waste. Once your design is complete saved in the correct size, follow these instructions to produce the 'printing files' (these instructions are for Photoshop):

1. Download the 'printing files templates' and select the appropriate to your album size.
2. Open Photoshop, and open the printing file template that you just saved.
3. Go to Image / Image Size and change the document resolution to 250 dpi (leave all other values untouched).
4. If the guides are not visible, go to View / Show / Show guides.
5. In the View menu, check Snap.
6. Select View / Snap to / Guides, and leave that file open. At this point you can save the template in your computer for future use.
7. Open all the files that make up your design.
8. Drag the first file to the first blank in the printing files template. The image should fit perfectly in the blank, and should snap to the guides.
9. Close the first file.
10. Drag the second file to the second blank in the printing files template, and so on until all the blanks in the template are filled.
11. Close each of your files as you go, to avoid repetition.
12. When the template is full, select Layers / Flatten image
13. Rotate the document 90º.
14. Save the file in JPEG format, maximum quality, baseline standard.
15. Name the file with an Alpha character and the book size, so that the files appear in order. For example, A10x12.jpg, B10x12.jpg, etc.
16. Open the printing files template again, and repeat all the steps until all your files are in template form.
17. Save all the templates relating to the same size in one folder.
18. Repeat the process for each additional album size you are ordering.

Contact sheet

Please submit a contact sheet with all the files in the right order, and if you are ordering any foldouts, indicate on the contact sheet which double spread should be visible when the foldout is closed (we call it 'outside foldout') and which double spread will be seen when the foldout opens ('inside foldout'). You may specify whether you want the foldout to open to the left or to the right. If nothing is specified, it will be made to open to the right.

To create a contact sheet with Photoshop:

1. Have all the files that need to be included in the contact sheet in one folder (closed).
2. In Photoshop, select File / Automate / Contact Sheet II...
3. Complete details in the dialog box according to the quantity of files. If possible make them fit in an A4 sheet with landscape orientation.

Book jackets

We can supply book jacket templates for all album sizes 4x5 and up. When designing a book jacket, always keep in mind that the fitting is not always exactly as indicated by the guides - the guides are a 'guide' only. In particular, the width of the spine changes with each album so you will always obtain better results if the spine is left blank (i.e. no text or images) and the images on the front and back cover have plenty of room around them.

Book jackets should always be designed with a white or light-color background. They are printed on Kodak metallic paper, which can be easily scratched. Dark colors will make any scratches stand out. Dark colors may also cause the emulsion to lift when creasing the paper around the cover of the album. We therefore recommend that you do not use dark colors on book jackets and, if you do, you accept that we do not take responsibility for the final appearance of the jacket after creasing.

IMPORTANT: When you submit your own design, the files should be ready to print. You should check that the images are sufficiently sharp, free of dust, etc. We recommend that you do a test print before submitting your files, so you know exactly what printing quality to expect. By printing quality we mean sharpness of images, smoothness of curves, etc. Colors may not be identical when printed by A+ Books.

Terms & Conditions

CURRENCY

All amounts shown in this website are in Australian Dollars.

PAYMENT METHODS: cheque and/or transfer to 'A+ Books' (not A Plus Books) ANZ BSB 014706 Account Nº 499466271

TIMING OF PAYMENTS

For purchases involving a New A+ Books Design:

A minimum deposit of AU$ 350.00 is required with each order. All balances are payable at the time of design approval or two weeks after we send a design preview - whichever happens first. Orders where the total amount is AU$ 350 or less must be submitted with full payment.

Orders for Replica of A+ Books Design or Your Design must be submitted with full payment.

Specials may be offered from time to time subject to different conditions such as up-front payment.

LOAN BOOKS

Loan books are subject to availability. A deposit of AU$ 350 is required before a loan book will be given

The deposit will be FULLY credited towards my first purchase after return of the loan book if the book is returned in good condition within three months of having received it.

The client will not be required to return the loan book if he/she keep it for more than three months, and that he/she will NOT be entitled to a credit of his/her deposit, not even a partial credit.

If the holder of a loan book decide not to proceed with any purchase, the holder will be entitled to a PARTIAL refund upon return of the loan book. I understand that, in such event, A+ Books will retain AUD $ 100 (if the book is returned within three months) to cover administrative costs and, if applicable, will also retain actual freight charges incurred in the delivery and return of the loan book, plus the cost of repairing or replacing the book (at “A+ Books”’s discretion) if necessary.

Any refund due will be given after the loan book has been returned, inspected and found in good condition.

If an order is submitted before the loan book is returned, the order must be submitted with a minimum deposit of AU$ 350 and normal payment conditions apply. Credit for the deposit paid will be given when the loan book is returned, subject to the conditions stated above.

SHIPPING

Delivery of the finished album(s) is at the client's expense.

The client may nominate his/her preferred shipping company and account number for delivery.

DISCLAIMER

Leather covers may present imperfections and irregularities in the grain, including the possibility of marks and/or scars. While care will be taken to place the most visible imperfections in the less conspicuous position possible, these imperfections are normal and typical of genuine leather. A+ Books will not accept returns or claims for exchanges for reason of these normal characteristics of leather.

Photographic prints mounted on each double spread of A+ Books must be creased in the center. Repeated opening and closing of the book affects the emulsion along the crease, and may result in a change in color over time. The difference in color only occurs along the fine crease, and is normal. The only way to avoid this colorization of the crease is to cut the pages, leaving a gap of at least 3mm between them. At A+ Books, we consider that colorization of the crease is far less disruptive than a 3mm gap. Photographers who order our books must be prepared to accept colorization along the crease as normal. A+ Books will not accept returns or claims due to a change of color along the crease.

Our books should be handled with care. In case of mishandling or negligence, books may be repaired or replaced at the client's expense.

DISCLAIMER REGARDING COLOR-MATCHING

Under no circumstances can we guarantee that the color of the images supplied and the color of the final images in the book will be exactly the same.

To color-match the Macs and monitors of the designers, the machine and monitor of the photographer and/or the clients that view the preview, and the machine and monitor of the lab in the Lambda Durst printer would be simply impossible.

Furthermore, printing the same image on different types of paper also results in variations in color. Clients must therefore be prepared to accept a reasonable degree of shifting in colors.

We will NOT replace books due to slight differences in color, as this is not considered to be a manufacturing fault.

The good news is that nearly all our clients are more than happy with the quality of output, and in fact many have noticed that there are images in the books that look far better than the ones supplied - however we feel compelled to make this disclaimer in order to prevent possible misunderstandings in the future.

COPYRIGHT NOTICE

The copyright of the digital images provided by the photographer remains the property of the photographer's studio. The copyright of the designs and layouts made by A+ Books remains the property of A+ Books.

A+ Books reserves the right to use the designs for advertising, display or any other purpose thought proper by A+ Books.
